Congratulations to UBU Design and all of the project team! UBU provided the landscape design for the Mary Hare School, which has been selected for an Education Property Award 2025 – SEND Project of the year!

UBU were appointed in 2017 to partner Architecture PLB on the development of this new primary school for the deaf in Newbury, Berkshire, with planning permission being granted in August 2018.

The landscape led scheme set within the estate parkland, occupies a sensitive location within the North Wessex Downs AONB. UBU undertook a Landscape and Visual Impact Assessment in order to identify and mitigate the effects of the development on the landscape, which informed the comprehensive landscape strategy for the site.  UBU also provided Arboricultural and Ecological services for the development.

Using appropriate planting design, buildings sensitively blended into the landscape and benefited from their unique position in the North Wessex Hills, and classrooms were opened out onto external learning terraces.

Good luck at the Awards in May 🤞🏼
